#1 Großer Wannsee 🛟 

One of the best family-friendly lakes in Berlin is Großer Wannsee, a classic spot for sunbathing, swimming and soaking up summer vibes. Its historic Strandbad and nearby lakeside promenade are perfect for strolls, boat cruises, or hopping on the ferry to Berlin Kladow (yes, it’s part of the local public transport system!). For a well-deserved break, grab coffee and cake at the museum café in the Liebermann Villa with breathtaking views of the lake. Best part? #2 Kleiner Wannsee 🌳 

Looking for hidden lakes Berlin style? Head to Kleiner Wannsee. It’s quieter than other lakes, with cozy canoe trips to Potsdam and lots of greenery. Plus, literature enthusiasts can take the audio tour filled with information and stories about Heinrich von Kleist. In 1811 the playwright took his own life here together with his lover. 

#3 Tegeler See ⛵ 

This one’s for you, water sports lover! 🚣‍♂️ One of the best things to do at this Berlin lake is enjoy the many water sports offerings. Tegeler See is your go-to for sailing, pedal boating, or just a relaxed picnic by the shore. t’s much quieter away from the Tegel lido, where you can enjoy the lake’s countless natural bathing spots and many islands. Easy to reach by U-Bahn and bus, it’s one of the top lakes in Berlin accessible by public transport.  

#4 Flughafensee 🪂 

Not far from Tegel Airport, Flughafensee is a lesser-known secret swimming spot Berlin locals love. Chill out on its sandy beach or find a shady hideaway in the surrounding dunes. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not plunge into the cool water before taking a walk around the lake? You can even reach the runway of Tegel airport at the southern end of the lake.  

#5 Jungfernheideteich🍹 

Lake Jungfernheideteich is an insiders’ tip in Berlin-Charlottenburg. In the summer, many locals from the surrounding area spend their days off in the lido with its snazzy rafts and fun water activities. The other side of the lake is perfect for those who like it a bit quieter and more casual. The more adventurous among us will love the Jungfernheide tight-rope garden which offers great views across the park from lofty heights. This lake is also only half an hour away from our MEININGER Hotel Berlin Tiergarten.  

#6 Müggelspree & Müggelsee 🏖️ 

For an endless summer, head east to the Müggelspree and Müggelsee. Berlin’s largest lake offers deserted beaches, hiking and cycle paths and plenty of water sports activities. From stand-up paddling to private boat tours (no need for a driver’s licence by the way), you can combine swimming with the activity of your choice. This is an expansive lake that’s best explored by bike. 

At Müggelspree, which feeds into the large lake, you find the restaurant Die Arche which is located right in the middle of the water and can only be reached by motorboat every 15 minutes. Enjoy a cold beer and some fresh trout after a glorious day by the lake. 🍻
